PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect terahertz light or the like with a high S/N ratio and further reduce costs in an apparatus and to miniaturize the apparatus.;SOLUTION: When terahertz light is being applied to a terahertz photodetector 11 and when the terahertz light is not being applied to the terahertz photodetector 11, probe pulse beams L3 are applied to the terahertz photodetector 11. A signal processing section 21 obtains a detection signal according to the difference between the integral value of a pulse electric signal obtained from the terahertz photodetector 11 in response to the probe pulse light L3 when the terahertz light L6 is being applied to the terahertz photodetector L6 and the integral value of a pulse electric signal obtained from the terahertz photodetector 11 in response to the probe pulse light L3 when the terahertz light L6 is not being applied to the terahertz photodetector 11.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
