PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for easily and reliably detecting a fold failure of a flap.;SOLUTION: The apparatus 100 for detecting a fold failure of flaps 21F to 24F of a package 20 includes: a flap detecting sensor 2 which scans target regions where the flaps 21F to 24F are to be present, and measures a physical quantity which changes according to the presence of the flaps 21F to 24F; and a fold failure determining section 10 which determines whether there is a fold failure on the basis of the result measured by the flap detecting sensor 2. The flap detecting sensor 2 scans each of target regions corresponding to each of the plurality of flaps 21F to 24F by single scan which crosses the package 20.
