How to start a startup device and a gas discharge fire source for gas discharge light source

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starting device and a starting method for a gas discharge light source capable of operating at an optimum preheating duration time.;SOLUTION: The starting device for the gas discharge light source is constituted so as to measure initial resistance values of one or a plurality of filaments of a gas discharge light source such as a fluorescent lamp every time power is initially supplied to the gas discharge light source through ballast. In the starting device, one or the plurality of the filaments can be heated by starting a pre-heat cycle. A duration time of the pre-heat cycle can be automatically customized by the starting device based on the initial resistance values and target hot resistance values calculated by the starting device on the basis of the initial resistance values. The duration time of the pre-heat cycle can be automatically customized by the starting device so as to optimize reliability and lifetime of the gas discharge light source.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
