PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an opened inorganic fiber bundle for composite materials, which can give a ceramic-based composite material exhibiting sufficient strength, fracture energy and excellent durability, when receiving a stress in a high temperature oxidation atmosphere, controls the deterioration in a fiber strength due to the damage of the fibers during the production of the opened inorganic fiber bundle for the composite materials, avoids the contact of fibers to each other in the fiber bundle during the production of the composite material, and can form interfacial layers between the whole surfaces of the fibers and a matrix, and to provide a method for producing the same. PSOLUTION: There are provided the opened inorganic fiber bundle for the composite materials, characterized in that inorganic powder and resin powder substantially decomposing and disappearing at ≤1,000°C in an inorganic atmosphere are adhered to the surfaces of inorganic fibers constituting the fiber bundle; the inorganic fiber bundle are accumulated with a resin sizing agent and a coupling agent; and the average particle diameter of the resin powder is larger than the average particle diameter of the inorganic powder; and a method for producing the same.
