PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separate kind of a nanoscale pH sensor, that is, a surface increasing RAMAN scattering (SERS) reactive nanoscale pH sensor used for stably detecting pH with high sensitivity within a physiologically significant range. PSOLUTION: The surface increasing Raman scattering reactive nanoscale pH sensor based on a surface increasing Raman scattering effect containing a nanofiber, the metal nanoparticles adapted so as to modify the surface of the nanofiber and the pH reactive molecules adsorbed on the surfaces of the metal nanoparticles is prepared. This nanoscale pH sensor is used to detect (or determine) the pH value of a sample within the physiologically significant range with nanometer scale space resolving power.
