Sulfation of chondroitin sulfate derived of shark cartilage octasaccharide

PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an sulfated oligosaccharide useful as an reagent for research for elucidating structure and function of chondroitin sulfate having various bioactivities. PSOLUTION: Several fractions containing octasaccharide of sulfated oligosaccharides are prepared by using chondroitin sulfate (CS-C) of shark cartilage as a starting material, fragmentating the same using hyaluronidase to obtain octasaccharide fractions which are subsequently fractionated by anion exchange chromatography. By carrying out structural analyses on the sulfated oligosaccharides included in each fraction, 17 species of structures of new sulfated octasaccharides are defined. The sulfated octasaccharides are useful for analyzing epitopic conformation of various antichondroitin sulfate antibodies (CS-56, MO-225, 2H6 and LY111). PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
