PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide stainless steel for a solid polymer fuel cell separator having little amount of ion elution in a high potential area and a solid polymer fuel cell using the same. PSOLUTION: The stainless steel contains in mass% C: 0.03% or less, N: 0.03% or less, Si: 0.01-2.0%, Mn: 0.01-2.0%, Al: 0.001-0.3%, Cr: 20-35%, Mo: 4.0% or less and Nb: 0.2-2.0%, the remainders being Fe and an unavoidable impurities, and as regard to amounts of Cr, Nb and Mo, the following two formulas (1), (2) are satisfied: (1) Cr+3Mo23, and (2) Nb/(Cr+5Mo)0.01.
