PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a unit for evaluating steam barrier properties easy in the measuring operation after the preparation of an evaluating sample when steam barrier properties are evaluated with respect to a transparent base material by utilizing the corrosion of a metal and capable of measuring the transmission of a markedly microamount of moisture with high precision. PSOLUTION: The unit for evaluating steam barrier properties includes a sample piece 10, wherein a membrane 3 comprising a water corrosive metal is provided on one side of the transparent base material 1 of which the steam barrier properties must be evaluated and a moisture barrier layer 5 comprising a water impermeable metal is formed to the transparent base material 1 so as to perfectly cover the membrane 3, and a gas impermeable cup 15. The sample piece 10 is mounted on the cup 15 so as to hermetically seal the space 15a in the gas impermeable cup 15 with the surface on the side provided with the membrane 3 and the moisture barrier layer 5 of the sample piece 10 turned inside, and a moisture absorbing agent 17 is housed in the space 15a in the gas impermeable cup 15 hermetically sealed by the sample piece 10.
