PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical heat pump type water heater capable of easily and surely detecting reverse piping connection, and suppressing wasted draining.;SOLUTION: A heat pump going pipe 9 and a water supply pipe 11 connected to a lower section of a hot water storage tank 2 include a flow channel switching means 34, a hot water supply control section 27 controls the flow channel switching means 34 to store a small amount of supply water in the hot water storage tank 2, then the stored water is returned from the heat pump going pipe 9 to the hot water storage tank 2 from a heat pump return pipe 12 via a water-refrigerant heat exchanger 5 by driving a circulation pump 10, and a reverse piping is detected on the basis of whether an outlet temperature sensor 33 detects an abnormally-high temperature at that time or not, thus the reverse piping can be detected with high efficiency while minimizing the wasted draining, and the heat pump type water heater can be used at ease at all times.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
