The invention relates to a monitoring device for an isolated electrical network (2) of a photovoltaic system (4). The monitoring device comprises a short circuit measurement circuit having a first electrical measuring circuit line (12) for connecting a first electrical pole (8) of the photovoltaic system (4) to a reference point (20) via at least one protective component (13) and a second electrical measurement circuit line (14) for connecting a second electrical pole (10) of the photovoltaic system (4) to the grounding point (20) via at least one protective component (13). The invention further comprises a component (16) connected between one of the measurement circuit lines (12 14) and the reference point (20) and a measurement device (22) for measuring an electrical parameter of the first component (16) wherein a value of the parameter that is not equal to zero and/or a change in the value of the parameter demonstrates an electrical termination of the photovoltaic system (4) with the reference point (20).
