TIME BASED TRAFFIC SIGNAL SWITCHING WITH EMERGENCY VEHICLE PREEMPTION

摘要

Present invention aims to design time based traffic signal switching algorithm that provides efficient way to handle traffic on road. The signal timings are dynamically changed with reference to time of the day. Another feature we design is to have priorities for emergency vehicles. The system includes a real-time status monitor of an intersection which is relayed to a communications controller for transmission to emergency vehicles. The system also provides for audio-visual warnings at an intersection to protect pedestrians who may not be in a position to hear the approach of emergency vehicles. A transponder mounted on an emergency vehicle provides autonomous control so the vehicle operator can attend to getting to an emergency and not be concerned with the operation of the system. Following invention is described in detail with the help of FIG. 1 of sheet 1 showing block diagram of intersection functions for an emergency vehicle signal pre-emption system, FIG. 2 [a] of sheet 2 showing an example of a schematic block diagram of a transponder use in emergency vehicles and FIG. 2[b] of sheet 2 showing an example of a schematic diagram of on-board diagnostic electronics for the emergency vehicle signal pre-emption system.
