A method for assessing a level of loading of a metal structure of a bridge crane includes establishing a dependence of values of one of the parameters of a motor of a load lifting mechanism on the values of the mass of goods alternately raised, wherein this dependence and maximum allowable value of the mass of goods are memorized, continuous measurement of the current value of the controllable parameter of the motor of the mechanism for lifting the load, comparing it with the stored value of the maximum allowable load mass and when it is exceeded - the generation of the alarm and switching off of the load lifting mechanism. The current values of a controlled parameter, for example, active power consumed by the motor of the load lifting mechanism is added to the current values of the controlled parameter of the motor of the mechanism for crane movement and compared with the total maximum permissible value of the load, for which to the motor of the mechanism for movement of the crane an additional sensor of active power is attached, whose signal is simultaneously fed to two additional comparator units, one of which is connected to a setting constant unit, through which the dependence of the controlled parameter of the motor of the mechanism for movement of the crane on the resistance to movement is established and its maximum value, and another - with a setting constant unit, through which a maximum total allowable value of the controlled parameter is established.
