The present invention relates to a method for extracting antibacterial compounds from Schizophyllum commune comprising the steps of: drying Schizophyllum commune fruit bodies until achieving a uniform dry weight of the fruit bodies; grinding the dried fruit bodies to produce a mushroom powder; contacting the mushroom powder with a solvent to extract the antibacterial compounds; filtering the solvent containing extracted antibacterial compounds to obtain a filtrate; and evaporating the solvent in the filtrate to obtain the antibacterial compounds; characterised in that the solvent is selected from a group consisting of methanol, ethyl acetate and dichloromethane; and the mushroom powder is contacted with the solvent at 200-250 rpm and 30-50°C for 24-48 hours, wherein the ratio of mushroom powder to solvent is 1:10 (w/v).
