Plateau-honing? comprising: defining the type of plateau honing desired, according to the roughness parameters of probability Rvq, Rpq and Rmq; determine with them the probability curve of the base honing process plus honing finishing process; obtain the corresponding estimated Abbott-Firestone curves; determine volume of material to be plucked from the difference in areas between both Abbott-Firestone curves; determine the finishing honing process time by matching the volume of material to be torn off, with the volume determined from the rate of material removal; determine the number of passes, based on the process time, the machine kinematics and the tool path. The parameters of the roughing honing, semi-finishing honing and finishing honing processes are also determined.
