Use of an antioxidant for the manufacture of a device (10) for the selective removal of HLA-DR positive monocytes, which selectively removes HLA-DR positive monocytes from blood comprising an anticoagulant, in which the device (10) for selective removal of monocytes positive for HLA-DR comprises a cell removal filter (40) formed by a non-woven polyester fabric of unmodified surface, in which the polyester is disposed on the surface of the fabric non-woven so that the blood comes into direct contact with the polyester and in which no hydrophilic treatment is carried out on the surface of the polyester non-woven fabric, the cell removal filter (40) is filled with a filling solution that comprises the antioxidant and is subjected to radiation sterilization, the anticoagulant is at least one selected from the group comprising citric acid and a salt thereof, and the antioxidant is at least one selected from the group comprising sodium pyrosulfite, potassium pyrosulfite, sodium thiosulfate, sodium hydrogen sulfite, sodium sulfite, hypophosphorous acid, ascorbic acid, and a derivative of ascorbic acid.
