A method for processing a sequence of video images (BS), comprising the steps of: - detecting, using a detector film (FD), a pattern of movement between consecutive images of the sequence of video images (BS), - introducing a hybrid processing mode if the pattern detected motion comprises a hybrid component both film and video, and in hybrid mode, according to the pattern of movement detected film component, in which pattern detected motion component film comprises a pattern of pulldown 22, 32: - processing a first group of images of the sequence of video images (BS) as film components, and - to replace the remaining images with images of a second group of images, wherein images of the second group of images are generated by a process of motion estimation and upconversion process, and - providing the sequence of images processed video (BS) as a display signal (DS), where for the movement pattern of pulldown 22 - the first group of images comprises images attributed to a phase film 0, - and second group of images comprises images resulting from the process of motion estimation and process upconversion, from images attributed to a phase film 1, and wherein for the movement pattern of pulldown 32 - the first group of images comprises images attributed to a phase of film 0 or 3, - the remaining images comprise images attributed to a phase of film 1, 2 and 4, and - the second group of images comprises images resulting from the process of motion estimation and upconversion process, from images attributed to a phase film 3 and 0, - so that the images display signal (DS) with phase film 2 are obtained directly from images of the sequence of video images (BS) with phase film 0, and images display signal (DS) with phases film 3 and 4 are obtained from images of the sequence video images (BS) with phases of film 0 and 3 by the process of estimating motion vectors and the process of upscaling, and images display signal (DS) with phases of film 0 and 1 are obtained from images of the video image sequence (BS) with phase film 3 and the following film with phase 0, by the process of estimating motion vectors and the upconversion process.
