A model of the geological propertiesin a volume of the earth is created by distributing aplurality of points in the volume in the absence of agrid. Each point has a location. A first vector is assignedto a first point of the plurality of points. Thefirst vector has a length, a magnitude, and a directionderived from a geological property in the neighborhoodof the location of the first point. The magnitudeof the first vector represents the value of the geologicalproperty in the neighborhood of the first point.The direction of the first vector represents the directionof maximum continuity. The direction of maximumcontinuity is the direction in the volume alongwhich the magnitude of the geological property stayssubstantially the same for the greatest distance whenmoving away from the first point. The length of thefirst vector represents the distance through the volumefrom the first point in the direction of the firstvector that the magnitude and direction of maximumcontinuity of the geological property stay substantiallythe same.
