A computer-assisted training system for interview-based information gatheringandassessment. A GUI displays information pertaining to a training scenario andgenerates eventmessages based on student input. An Evaluation Engine compares event messagesto rulesembodying predetermined instructional content and generates evaluationcomments. AnAdaptation Engine processes the evaluation comments to produce studentfeedback that ispresented to the student via the GUI. The training scenario includes a scenedefining a physicalcontext of the scenario; one or more witnesses who may be interviewed by thestudent; and thepredetermined instructional content. The instructional content includes anyof: a predeterminedline of questions to be posed by the student to elicit clues relevant to aparticular subject of thetraining scenario, preferred questioning techniques to be employed by thestudent; and apredetermined line of reasoning to be employed by the student to deducecharacteristics of theparticular subject.
