The invention further relates to a testkit for the detection of an infection by the influenza A and/or influenza B virus, comprising: i) a device or the collection of a saliva sample and ii) reagents and adjuncts for the detection of influenza A and/or influenza B viruses. Furthermore, the invention relates to the use of saliva as a sample material for the detection of an infection with the influenza A and/or the influenza B virus.
