Provision is made of a drill-rod handling device (38) for drilling rigs (30), said drill-rod handling device (38) having a carriage (78) which is configured in such a way that a substantially linear movement of the drill-rod handling device (38) in a carriage plane (ZZ) is possible in a moving direction of the carriage (78), a pivot arm (86) which is provided on the carriage (78) so as to be pivotable about a pivot axis (84) substantially parallel to the moving direction of the carriage (78), and a drill-rod gripper (88) which is provided on that end section of the pivot arm (86) that is located opposite the carriage (78), wherein the drill-rod handling device (38) is configured such that the pivot arm (86) is pivotable at least in a subregion of its overall pivoting range of at least 160° and in the process a drill rod (62) is movable in the drill-rod gripper (88) from a first position to a second position, said positions being located at opposite sides of the carriage plane (ZZ). As a result of such a drill-rod handling device, the utilization time for drilling can be increased, while at the same time the drill-rod handling device is usable for moving the drill rod and/or for putting together doubles or thribbles.
