The invention provides an analytical method comprising the identification of genetic markers that are coupled to individual genetic factors which could be shown to be contributing to the HD phenotype. The analytical method is based on the determination of an aberration, e.g. a single nuclear polymorphism, in at least one genetic marker. Marker sequences relevant for the genetic disposition to develop HD are given as the wild-type sequences which determine a positive influence on hip development, i.e. no support of HD, whereas a mutant sequence determines a negative influence, i.e. an increase in phenotypic HD.
