A swing type bidirectional overrunning clutch and method for returning the driving end thereof to the original position, the clutch comprising a driving assembly, a driven assembly, a shifting fork (4), and a rolling element (301, 302); the shifting fork comprises an inward pawl (401); the inward pawl (401) and the rolling element (301, 302) are both located in a cavity formed by the driving assembly and the driven assembly. In a drive stroke, the shifting fork (4) lags behind the driving assembly by an angle; in a return stroke, the shifting fork (4) overruns the driving assembly by an angle, such that the shifting fork (4) returns to a middle point before the driving assembly returns to the original position; at least when the shifting fork (4) is at the middle point, the effective moment applied to the shifting fork (4) in the direction consistent with the return stroke direction is greater than the sum of resistance moment applied to the shifting fork (4) in the direction opposite to the return stroke direction, such that the shifting fork (4) crosses the middle point and continues to rotate in the return stroke direction, while the driving assembly continues to rotate; and finally, the shifting fork (4) deviates from the middle point by an angle in the return stroke direction, and the driving assembly returns to the original position.
