An optical fibre position detection method and device, and an optical fibre fusion splicer having the device. The detection method comprises: removing a cladding portion from an optical fibre (202) of a positioning section to expose a core portion (405); irradiating the core portion (405) with light from a side face of the optical fibre (202), and collecting light refracted by the core portion (405) of the optical fibre at the other side of the optical fibre (202); and for points at N different positions of the collected light, acquiring the light intensities of the points, where N is an integer greater than or equal to 2, and according to the position coordinates of each point and the corresponding light intensity, judging the position of the core portion (405) of the optical fibre. The detection method and device utilize the scattering effect formed when light passes through an optical fibre, so that it is possible to perform optical fibre position detection and result judgement using a light collector or a photoelectric sensor with relatively low precision, thereby reducing costs and the difficulty of manufacturing.
