The present invention generally relates to compositions used for controlling agricultural pests and, in a particular embodiment, to compositions useful for combatting nematodes. The invention provides a viable alternative to the use of nematicide compounds that are harmful to the environment and can harm human health. This alternative is embodied by a nematicide composition for controlling nematodes and which can be used on plants, plant parts and the soil. The associated technology originates from the unexpected results obtained from experiments carried out with extracts of the plant Canavalia ensiformis, leading to an unprecedented nematicide composition comprising a specific combination of substances that are naturally found in the extract and have a synergistic action.
