The unit (10) has thread eyes (12-15) movable along a thread eye rail (11) that is made of aluminum, and a drive unit (20) provided for coupling thread eye drives (16-19) with thread eyes. Thread eye rail unit is utilized in a flat knitting machine in an operable manner. Actuators i.e. servomotors (21-24), are provided for moving thread eye bracing units (25-28). Electrical interfaces and sensors are equipped in the unit. Mounting pieces (29, 30) are fixed in two end areas of the thread eye rail unit. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for fitting a flat knitting machine (2) a flat knitting machine.
