The invention relates to a method for the destruction of data carriers which prevents access to the comminution and destruction of confidential data carriers consisting of paper or similar. In said method confidential data carriers are collected at the point of origin (A) in secure collection containers and the data carriers are supplied to a destruction device (2), said method being carried out at the point of origin (A) in a more cost-effective and energy-saving manner with little noise. To achieve this, once the confidential data carriers have been collected at the point of origin (A) in the secure collection container (1), said container (1) is transported to the file destruction device (2) which comprises a pulper (20) that is immobile at the point of origin (A), the confidential data carriers are then emptied from the collection container (1) into the interior (201) of the pulper (20) whilst being safeguarded against access. A hydromechanical pulping process of the confidential data carriers is then started after said carriers have been mixed with a pulping fluid and is carried out by the operation of an agitator device (202), in order to produce a suspension of defibrated documents and pulping fluid, the confidential data carriers being rendered illegible.
