Method and system for querying and obtaining the level of user recognition of a statement pertaining to him or her in a communications network, in which a verifier (100) queries (s30) a controller (200) to obtain a level of user recognition (30) of the statement (10). The controller (200) determines, on behalf of the user (20), a level of user recognition (30) of the statement (10) by applying at least one rule, and sends said level of user recognition to the verifier (100). The controller and verifier are different network nodes that may belong to different administrative domains without any underlying trust relationships set up with each other. The user may modify the rule to apply for each statement at any time. This system allows the level of user recognition of statements to be checked. These statements may be stored or managed by entities deployed in different network nodes or belonging to different administrative domains without any underlying trust relationships with one another.
