The device (1) has an electronic paramagnetic resonance spectrometer (2) including a cavity resonator (41) that is arranged to receive a sample of a material (91) to be characterized. An electronic paramagnetic resonance receiver (21) is arranged for measuring electronic paramagnetic resonance in the cavity resonator. A light source (32) is arranged to illuminate the sample placed inside the cavity resonator. A photosensitive receiver (31) receiving the light emitted by the illuminated sample comprises an optical input end (33) placed inside the resonator.
