The present invention relates to a variable dimple-type air resistance reduction device for a high speed train, which improves the driving performance of the high speed train by modifying the front car structure of the high speed train to lessen the air resistance generated when the high speed train travels; and comprises multiple dimples arranged at regular intervals on the front head section of the high speed train, and a cover body, in which a shielding unit for covering the dimples and an opening part for exposing the dimples to the air are alternately formed, on the front head section of the high speed train. The present invention has effect in reducing air resistance since the dimples are formed on the front head section of the high speed train to form a turbulence boundary layer, flow separation is implemented on the surface of the rear side of the train, and consequently, a slipstream region becomes smaller than the front head section without dimples to reduce pressure drag; and, more specifically, in reducing energy consumption for driving the train by reducing air resistance during the operation of the train and in reducing noise from the surroundings of railroads and the inside of the train.
