The present invention provides a design information management system having an automatic design change notification function and a control method thereof. The design information management system comprises: a design terminal which executes a predetermined ship design, generates and transmits an interference check request signal for checking interference with other design models, and modifies a design model so as to prevent the malfunction caused by the design interference depending on the interference check resu and a design management server which checks, through predetermined items, whether design modes designed by other workers interfere with a current design model according to the interference check request signal for design model transmitted from the design terminal, stores corresponding design model drawing information in a DB if there is no interference therebetween, and notifies a corresponding original designer of a design change in a predetermined notification mode if there is interference therebetween. According to the present invention, the system checks, before a new design work, whether interference occurs due to a design change in the design drawing information of other designers in which design works are completed, and notifies a current designer and the other designers of the interference check result in real time. When the current designer designs a part adjacent to a designed model, the system can prevent the malfunction caused by design interference by previously checking the interference between the part and the designed model and notifying the current designer of the design interference so as to enable the current designer to take appropriate measures.
