The present invention provides a development system for developing mechatronic systems, comprising a memory configured to store generic component descriptions of mechatronic components of the mechatronic systems, at least one system interface coupled to said memory and configured to exchange the generic component descriptions with development tools of different development domains provided for developing the mechatronic systems, at least one adaptor coupled to said at least one system interface, wherein the stored generic component descriptions comprise generic descriptions of the input and/or output interfaces of the mechatronic components of the mechatronic system, and wherein said at least one adaptor is configured to translate the stored generic component descriptions into tool specific component descriptions of said development tools and/or translate the tool specific component descriptions of said development tools into generic component descriptions. The present invention, furthermore, provides a non-transitory data carrier and a method.
