The present invention provides an overtaking vehicle warning system comprising: an image filming unit attached to the front of a vehicle and filming the front of the vehicle; a driving unit setting an interesting area by receiving image data from the image filming unit, extracting characteristics of vertical edges from the interesting area, and generating a warning signal if characteristics matched by comparing with characteristics of a previous frame is greater than a threshold value; and a warning unit receiving the warning signal and generating an overtaking vehicle warning signal.
