Disclosed are a method for preparing trimanganese tetroxide with low BET, a method for controlling the particle size of trimanganese tetroxide, and trimanganese tetroxide prepared thereby. The trimanganese tetroxide is in a sphere shape, has low contents of impurities, a pure crystal phase, and narrow particle diameter range to be suitable for the trimanganese tetroxide for an international lithium ion secondary battery standard. The BET specific surface area is less than 1 m2/g, and D50 is 10-12 micrometers or 14-16 micrometers. The content of Fe is less than 10 ppm, and the contents of Cu, Zn, Pb, and Cd are less than 0.1 ppm by calculating based on weight.
