The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing an activated carbon fiber and an activated carbon fiber manufactured by the same. The manufacturing method comprise the steps of: heat-treating a PAN fiber in air in 250-300 C and stabilizing; depositing the stabilized fiber in an aqueous KOH solution; drying the stabilized fiber; supplying nitrogen to a vessel containing an MDEA solution, and high-temperature heat-treating in nitrogen and MDEA vapor; and after cooling to room temperature after the heat-treatment is finished, cleaning the heat-treated carbon fiber with distilled water and drying.
