FIELD: medicine.;SUBSTANCE: vital capacity, linear blood flow velocity in the inferior vena cava (IVC) in a subdiaphragmatic segment, a subdiaphragmatic diameter of the inferior vena cava, a peak expiratory flow rate and the Tiffeneau index are determined. The derived values are substituted in a mathematical formula, and the value S as a patient's severity score is determined. If S100, the patient's severity is considered to be moderate with an osteosynthesis performed after a drainage of the pleural cavity. The values S100 enable stating the patient's severe condition with a high probability of intrapleural complications. A repeated spirography and duplex examination of the IVC are performed in the given category of the patients after sanitation of the pleural cavity and removal of the drain tube. The values S100 require performing an osteosynthesis; if S100, the patient's follow-up and therapeutic actions are prescribed. The method enables evaluating the patient's severity if observing the combined injuries of a chest and extremity segments and selecting a correct therapeutic approach by the adequate use of conservative and surgical methods.;EFFECT: improving the clinical outcome in the patients suffering from the given pathology, avoiding various complications both of the chest organs, and of locomotor apparatus.;1 tbl, 2 ex
