The method involves generating a changing measurement voltage across a measurement winding (4) that is provided in a measuring core (3) by applying a direct current supply voltage to the measurement winding. A current resulting through the measurement voltage is measured. A polarity of the direct current supply voltage is reversed when absolute value of current exceeds a predetermined current limit value. A frequency of measurement voltage is determined as a measure of measured inductance. An independent claim is also included for a measuring device for measuring inductance during measurement of magnetic flux density or magnetic saturation in an inductive element.
