The cylindrical device comprises an electrode structure with electrical connections, which is implemented as a resistive, capacitive or inductive element. A functional layer is applied to the electrode structure, whose electrical, physical or gas properties change in the presence of certain gas components. A defined variation of the influx speed of the gas to the functional layer or the gas composition or the temperature distribution is obtained in the radial, axial or tangential direction by execution of the cylindrical device and its high temperature suitable components.
