Use of substituted dicyclohexylmethanol derivatives (I) as an antimicrobial active substance and an anti-acne-, antidandruff-, deodorant- or antiperspirant active substance, is claimed. Use of substituted dicyclohexylmethanol derivatives of formula (I) as an antimicrobial active substance and an anti-acne-, antidandruff-, deodorant- or antiperspirant active substance, is claimed. R1-R10 : H, OH, OCOCH 3, CH 2OH, SO 3H, halo, 1-20C alkyl or 1-20C alkoxy. Provided that at least one of the groups R1-R10 is OH or alkoxy group having 1-20 carbon atoms. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a formulation comprising (I) and at least one carrier; (2) preparing the formulation, comprising mixing (I) with the carrier; (3) (I); and (4) preparing (I). ACTIVITY : Antimicrobial; Antiseborrheic; Dermatological. The antibacterial activity of (I) was tested against Staphylococcus epidermidis (strain ATCC 12228). The results showed that 4-(cyclohexyl-hydroxy-methyl)-cyclohexanol (2% in water-(12%) ethanol mixture) decreased colony forming units from 1.6x 10 4 to 7.4x 10 3. MECHANISM OF ACTION : None given.
