The exhaust gas turbocharger has a shaft, a rotor disk rotationally fixed with the shaft and a rotor rotating around a rotational axis. A detecting unit has an acceleration sensor for detecting the rotational speed of the rotor. An acceleration sensor is formed as a knock sensor of an internal combustion engine. The detecting unit is formed to determine the rotational speed of the rotor, irrespective of a magnetic field.
