The apparatus has a feed device (100) for supplying electrolytic cells in a milling chamber of a comminution device (200). A material discharge device (400) discharges crushed electrolyte cells from the milling chamber. The inert gas supply portions (300,350) generate inert gas atmosphere in the milling chamber and material discharge device. A gas suction device comprising a gas purification apparatus extracts the inert gas. The material discharge device has an opening for gas-tight attachment of portable collection device (500) for collecting chopped cells. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a portable collection device; (2) a system for transferring transportable critical electrolytic cells into transportable state; and (3) a method for transferring transportable critical electrolytic cells into transportable state.
