The device (10) has a detector arrangement (60) including a detector (61) e.g. photodiode, for detecting an intensity of a sample pulse (34) after a medium (42) passes through the sample pulse. The medium is arranged in an optical resonator arrangement (50) with a pair of mirrors (51, 52). The resonator arrangement is suitable for performing a cavity-ring-down-process. An arrangement of the device and the resonator arrangement meet each other such that the medium is irradiated by a pumping pulse (32) and the sample pulse for multiple times. The optical resonator arrangement is a passive resonator arrangement. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring change of an intensity of a sample pulse when a medium passes through the sample pulse based on a time lag of the sample pulse from a pumping pulse.
