The device comprises a workpiece holder for receiving a thin-film photovoltaic module, a laser beam source for generating a laser beam (31) having a beam cross section and a symmetrical intensity distribution over the beam cross section, a unit for directing the laser beam to the thin-film photovoltaic module, and a unit for guiding the laser beam along structure lines and one of the laser beam source in a radiation direction downstream optics. The optics is an intensity distribution graduating optics, and the structure lines have a graded depth across their cross-sections. The device comprises a workpiece holder for receiving a thin-film photovoltaic module, a laser beam source for generating a laser beam (31) having a beam cross section and a symmetrical intensity distribution over the beam cross section, a unit for directing the laser beam to the thin-film photovoltaic module, and a unit for guiding the laser beam along structure lines and one of the laser beam source in a radiation direction downstream optics. The optics is an intensity distribution graduating optics, and the structure lines have a graded depth across their cross-sections. The intensity distribution is a Gaussian distribution, and the optics is provided as a diffractive optical element. The optical element has a central region for higher top-intensity distribution and an end portion causing a lower intensity. The intensity distribution is a top-distribution, and the optics is provided as a structural mirror (42), which is divided into a non-reflecting center (43) and different reflecting edges, so that the central region for higher top-intensity distribution and an end portion causing a lower intensity are formed. An independent claim is included for a method for introducing structure lines in thin film-photovoltaic modules.
