A detection device is provided for detecting the containers in the rack. A computer unit (3) is provided for storing and processing data. The detection device is configured and designed to detect the position of one or multiple containers in the rack, where the container is optically detected in a contactless manner. A three-dimensional camera is provided for detecting the container and its contents. An independent claim is included for a method for process tracking of processes and performances that relate to an object, particularly in an animal room equipment or a plant laboratory equipment with a rack and container arranged in it and a database containing data relating to the container or its contents.
