The method involves detecting a surrounding of a vehicle (10) repeatedly at preset time interval, by ultrasound sensors (12). The periodically recurring objects (6) are determined based on the measured values of the ultrasonic sensors. The lateral distance (14) of vehicle to periodically recurring objects is determined, and the information regarding the lateral distance of vehicle to object is provided to vehicle driver.
