The device (1) has measurement units comprising two photodiode units for detection of incident radiation. The photodiode units comprise a collimator and photodiodes. A beam splitter controls the incident radiation of an illumination device e.g. elongated surface emitter and thermal emitter, on the photodiode units. A transmission unit (6) and a receiver unit (7) are arranged on opposed sides of a fluoroscopy region (4) for transporting a plastic container (2). An evaluating device evaluates signals determined by the receiver unit. The beam splitter is a wavelength-independent beam splitter and dichroic beam splitter. The evaluating device is a computer or a data processing apparatus. An independent claim is also included for a method for wall thickness measurement of plastic containers by a transmitted light principle.
