The device has a lens (22) with an optical axis (A) orthogonally intersects a rotating axis (D). An illumination beam path illuminates a pin or rod-shaped body (1) along the optical axis in a viewing direction of the lens. Light line projectors (26, 27) projecting a light line in the body are arranged such that the light line coincides with a rotating axis (D). A light line optical path (28) with the optical axis of the lens includes an angle not equal to zero degree. Evaluation- and memory units detect, evaluate and store optical signals detected by a camera assembly (21). The lens is telecentric lens, and the camera assembly is a charge-coupled device-camera. An independent claim is also included for a method for optical measurement of a pin or rod-shaped body.
