The assembly (1) has a supporting element (6) held in a hollow cylindrical plunger body (5). A roller (7) is rotatably mounted in a recess of the supporting element and runs on an external periphery surface of a cam (3) during operation of a high pressure pump. The supporting element comprises a front surface turned towards a pump piston (2), so that a projection is formed with a planar support surface for the pump piston. The projection of the supporting element is arranged centrally regarding the front surface. An independent claim is also included for a high pressure pump.
