Reactor, useful for generating chlorine dioxide from sodium chlorite and hydrochloric acid, comprises a reactor interior, and a float that has a horizontal cross-sectional area covering the majority of surface area of chemicals
The reactor comprises a reactor interior (13) and a float (14), which floats on a surface of chemicals (11) and has a horizontal cross-sectional area covering the majority of the surface area of the chemicals. The reactor interior comprises a narrowed portion (8) on a top side with a reduced horizontal cross-sectional area in the reactor. The reactor is designed such that the float on the surface of the chemical floatingly closes into the narrowed portion or covers the narrowed portion during the operation of the reactor. The horizontal cross-sectional area covers the majority of the cross-sectional area of the narrowed portion. The reactor is designed such that the float on the surface of the chemical floatingly closes into the narrowed portion or covers the narrowed portion during the operation of the reactor. The reactor is configured such that a water plug is formed above the float and the chemicals during the operation of the reactor. The reactor interior is tapered to the narrowed portion. A taper begins at a vertically upper part of the reactor. A density of the float is greater than the density of water and less than the density of the chemicals. The float is 75% of the horizontal cross-sectional area of the narrowed portion in the reactor interior. The float has the horizontal cross-sectional area, which is greater than the horizontal cross-sectional area of the narrowed portion, and is configured such that a bottom of the float closes the narrowed section during operation of the reactor. The horizontal cross-sectional area of the reactor interior in the narrowed portion is less than 40%, preferably less than a third of the base area of the reactor interior. An upper end of the reactor comprises a supply line for chemicals and/or water. A drain is formed at the lower end of the reactor. The reactor is designed such that a quantity of water is filled in the widest cross-sectional area of the reactor interior, and a horizontal extension of the float is completely covered by the water flow during the operation of the reactor. The reactor comprises a control electronics (4) for controlling the filling and discharge of the reactor to control chemicals and water in the reactor.
