The method involves conveying fuel along a conveying path in which a magnetic valve (22) is arranged. The valve is controlled with electrical control signal (50), and current value of the signal is measured. Fuel temperature is determined based on the measured value. Warning signal is displayed or error message is generated when the temperature exceeds given maximum value. A fuel injection system (10) is transferred to emergency operation after displaying the warning signal or after generating the message, where maximum producible fuel pressure is limited to a given value in the operation. An independent claim is also included for a fuel injection system.
