The method involves establishing injection prohibited request areas. A target injection request is set. An injection operation request which is not within the injection prohibited request area is determined by decreasing or increasing the target injection request, when the target injection request falls within the injection prohibited request area. The fuel injectors (18) of an internal combustion engine (10) are driven according to the injection operation request. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) processing unit; and (2) computer program stored in machine-readable storage medium for operating injector of internal combustion engine.
